This tiny island of rock is located at the southeast end of Ruxton Island, between Valdes Island and the mainland of Vancouver Island near Ladysmith.

Called Eagle Island prior to becoming a provincial park in 1981, Whaleboat Island Marine Provincial Park is an undeveloped 3-hectare marine park, completely treed, with no developed amenities for park visitors.

A mosaic of sculpted sandstone and large boulders along the rocky shoreline ring the island. This park is accessible by canoe or kayak from Ladysmith or Yellowpoint on Vancouver Island, however due to the rocky terrain, the upland portions of this park are extremely difficult to access making it virtually inaccessible to boaters and kayakers.

Small marine islets like Whaleboat Island are important wildlife habitat as they are isolated from larger land predators. Birds like American black oystercatchers, pigeon guillemots, gulls and cormorants are potential nesters on these islands and marine mammals such as harbour seals, California and Steller’s sea lions and killer whales have been spotted foraging in the reefs offshore.

Whaleboat Island Marine Provincial Park is located on Ruxton Island in Pylades Channel, between Valdes Island and the mainland of Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Boaters wishing to drop the hook at Whaleboat Island Marine Provincial Park will find temporary anchorage between Whaleboat and Ruxton Islands. There is room for only a couple of vessels at a time, as a large rock lies in the middle of the bay.
